Spotify’s Chief Human Resources Officer, Katarina Berg, has reaffirmed the company’s commitment to its work-from-anywhere policy, even as major corporations like Amazon, Apple, and JPMorgan enforce office returns. Berg emphasized that Spotify values flexibility and trusts its employees, whom she refers to as "grownups."
"You can’t spend a lot of time hiring grownups and then treat them like children," Berg told Raconteur, adding that productivity and efficiency remain unaffected under the policy. Despite acknowledging challenges with virtual collaboration, Spotify believes these do not justify mandatory office attendance.
The company has partnered with the Stockholm School of Economics to study virtual work’s impact on innovation and encourages in-person collaboration once a year during "core week," when teams physically gather to strategize and strengthen bonds. While Spotify retains its office spaces, it aims to make them appealing rather than compulsory, maintaining a balance between flexibility and connection.
