A recent Resume Builder survey, as reported by Newsweek, is shedding light on perceptions of Gen Z managers in today's workplaces.
The survey reveals a mixed perspective: while 37% of respondents see Gen Z managers as competent, 27% believe they face unique challenges compared to older colleagues. Complaints about Gen Z managers are also notable, with 33% of bosses reporting frequent grievances from their direct reports, and another 17% occasionally noting complaints.
Senior leaders express concerns about inexperience (48%), communication gaps (30%), and perceived deficiencies in leadership skills (32%) among Gen Z managers. Key areas for improvement identified include conflict management (29%) and decision-making (20%).
Julia Toothacre, a resume and career strategist at Resume Builder cited in the Newsweek article, suggests that mastering management skills takes time and experience. These challenges encountered by Gen Z managers, she notes, are a natural part of their professional growth.

Since the invention of cars, driving has been a rite of passage for many Americans. From teens saving up for their first set of wheels to retired couples exploring in their RVs, the open road has symbolized freedom and adventure.
Yet, this love affair is waning among younger Americans, according to The Week. Studies show that fewer Gen Zers are getting their driver’s licenses or choosing to drive. The number of teen drivers has declined since the 1990s. But why?
Driving can be dangerous, with fatal crashes becoming the leading cause of death for people ages 1 to 54 in the United States. Car safety features haven't kept pace with the diversity of drivers. High ownership costs, including insurance and fuel, also deter young adults already burdened with debt.
Environmental concerns are significant too. Gen Z is more eco-conscious, and cars contribute significantly to greenhouse gas emissions. Many prefer sustainable transportation like public transit or EVs. They dream of walkable cities and better public transport, reflecting a broader shift towards sustainable living.
While many Americans still buy cars, they’re doing so later in life. For Gen Z, the dream of the open road is evolving into a vision of mobility and sustainability.
