Job-Hunting While Building a Brand on Social Media
People say that scrolling through social media on your phone is a waste of time, and sometimes it is. However, the secret to landing your next job can be just one post away. A whopping 21% of the Class of 2023 found jobs through social media, a number that’s only growing. With 54% of Gen Z spending 4+ hours daily on socials, the opportunities are literally, everywhere. With platforms like LinkedIn, Instagram, and even TikTok, you have tools at your fingertips to build a personal brand, network, and discover opportunities.
The key? Building your personal brand. Whether you’re showcasing your work, networking with industry leaders, or positioning yourself as a thought leader, your digital presence can open doors.
Here’s how to turn your scrolling hours into career opportunities:
The following are our honest suggestions, no affiliate links or kickbacks apply.
➡️ Optimize Your Profiles
Your profile is your digital handshake. Make it count. It’s not just about job hunting; it’s about building a brand that speaks for you.
LinkedIn: Complete your profile with a professional photo, a standout headline, and key achievements. Think of it as your virtual resume (because, is there really an alternative in 2025?)
Instagram & TikTok: Showcase your creative side! Post your designs, photography, or short videos about your expertise. Use hashtags like #jobsearch or #opentowork to expand your reach.
X: Follow companies and leaders in your industry. Engaging with their content could get you noticed.
➡️ Build Your Online Presence
If people Google you, what will they find? A well-crafted online presence gives recruiters and hiring managers a reason to reach out.
Create a Portfolio: Platforms like Behance or a personal website let you show off your best work. Link them to your profiles.
Engage with Industry Leaders: Comment on posts, share insights, and join discussions. Networking starts here. Your next opportunity could come from a single DM or a well-placed comment.
Position Yourself as an Expert: Post valuable content, whether it's behind the scenes of your work or career tips. Consistency builds credibility.
➡️ Showcase Your Skills
Your work should speak for itself – but only if people can see it.
TikToks and Reels: Make short, engaging videos about your skills. Whether it’s coding tips or marketing hacks, show what you’ve got. However, before you put all your time and energy here, read below ⬇️.
YouTube and LinkedIn videos: Longer tutorials or vlogs about your work can set you apart. Longer tutorials or behind-the-scenes content help establish you as an industry pro. Think "How I Landed a Job in [insert industry]" or "A Day in the Life of a [insert role]" – these videos attract both recruiters and peers and help you build a brand for yourself in the process.
💡RoadMap Tip: Don’t just scroll, strategize! The right comment, hashtag, or video can make you stand out to the right person.

In recent days, U.S. users have increasingly migrated from TikTok to the Chinese social media platform Xiaohongshu, also known as RedNote, amid growing concerns over a potential U.S. ban on TikTok. RedNote, which has gained significant traction in the U.S., now faces the challenge of accommodating a new wave of American users unfamiliar with its stringent content moderation rules. While initially, many users have embraced the platform, they are quickly encountering content restrictions that are more severe than what they experienced on TikTok. These include censorship of LGBTQ+ discussions, fitness photos, and politically sensitive topics related to China’s history and sovereignty.
The platform’s censorship policies are guided by Chinese regulations that deem certain content, such as references to Taiwan and certain historical events, too sensitive. As American users navigate these norms, RedNote has begun hiring English-language content moderators to manage this influx. While some view this migration as an opportunity for cultural exchange, others are frustrated by the platform’s tight control over what can be shared. The ongoing shift highlights the tension between content moderation policies and user expectations in different cultural contexts.

Two things you may be skipping while on the job hunt
Let’s be real…blindly submitting applications on Indeed isn’t working. You’ve probably sent out dozens of resumes, only to be met with silence. The problem isn’t you; it’s the system.
Recruiters get flooded with resumes, and if you’re not networking your way in, you’re likely getting lost in the shuffle. So instead of playing the numbers game, let’s flip it.
1. Found the job post? Now find the hiring manager.
Instead of just clicking "Apply" or sending an email to the general inbox, do this:
🔍 Look up the company on LinkedIn
Find employees with titles like Hiring Manager, Recruiter, or Team Lead in the department you’re applying to.
If no recruiter is listed, search for the department head or someone who might be involved in hiring.
📧 Google the hiring manager’s email
Use tools like Hunter.io or SignalHire to locate email addresses.
Some companies list hiring contacts in the job posting—read carefully.
2. Turn that cold lead into a warm one.
If you don’t have direct connections, get creative.
💡 Find mutual connections – See who else you might know who is listed as working for the company. Ask a friend, former colleague, or alumni to introduce you. People are more likely to respond to warm intros.
💡 Engage with the company – Comment on posts from recruiters or employees. Make your name familiar before reaching out.
💡 Join industry groups – Hiring managers often post in LinkedIn or Slack communities before jobs hit public boards.
Why This Works
Applying through Indeed is easy. Getting noticed is the hard part. By focusing on who is hiring instead of just where to apply, you move from a random applicant to a real person they remember. TL;DR: Stop sending resumes into the void. Find the right people, reach out, and make a direct connection. That’s how you get hired in 2025.
