Whether you’ve practiced it or not, quiet quitting is continuing to gain momentum. According to Gallup global employee engagement metrics, 77% of global workers reported being disengaged at work as of June 2023, an increasing tendency among younger workers.

Quiet quitting isn't new. It's a modern name, coined on TikTok, for long-standing feelings of burnout and dissatisfaction. But why is doing exactly what your job requires, no more and no less, so controversial?

Some see quiet quitting as employees setting healthy boundaries in an era of overwork. Others see it as a lack of commitment that hurts productivity and innovation. Both can be true because while doing exactly what you're hired to do shouldn't have a negative connotation, a lack of motivation at work can seriously affect quality and efficiency.
