Gen Z: 2024’s Tastemakers

Source: Exploding Topics

Gen Z is a generation full of curiosity, creativity, and innovation. This group of nearly 70 million Americans consistently inspires new trends and even brought some back!

Let’s dive into the top Gen Z Trends of 2024!

  1. Digital & Technology Natives

It’s no surprise that Gen Z has taken over the social media world using TikTok, Instagram, and Snapchat daily. Over 95% of Gen Zers have a smartphone and 83% own a laptop.

  2. Nostalgic for the 2000s

Gen Z brought back several trends from the new Millenium, including Y2K fashion like low-rise jeans, and other “old school” items like flip phones. The fashion reseller app Depop has 90% of users under the age of 26.

  3. Distrust of Government and Brands

New reporting shows Gen Zers think that the government could do more to solve problems. The Covid-19 pandemic caused this mistrust, with 60% less likely to believe election results and political leaders. It’s not just the government though. Less than 25% trust business leaders, company data security, and media brands.

  4. Embracing Diversity and Social Issues

Gen Z is the most ethnically diverse generation in American history with more than 40% coming from a minority group. 62% believe that increasing inclusion will benefit society.

  5. Influencing the Workplace

Gen Z will make up 27% of the global workforce by 2025 and they’re already causing some big changes. The generation is emphasizing work/life balance, company purpose, work culture, and higher salaries.

Externships vs. Internships

WTF is an externship?

An externship is a program that allows college students to gain work experience while still finishing their degree at a college or university. Many externships provide graduates with entry-level job experiences that help them land jobs directly after graduation.

The purpose of an externship is not compensation, it’s education. Many are geared towards learning opportunities and can be a great addition on your resume.
