Gen Z’s Endless Opportunities with AI

A workplace survey of more than 31,000 employers asked hiring managers what they are looking for in Gen Z candidates and the overwhelming response was AI expertise.

Karin Kimbrough, LinkedIn’s Chief Economist, believes that Millennial employees are at a disadvantage because they are waiting for their employers to teach them AI technology, whereas Gen Z is already experimenting with it and instructing themselves.

“They’re already experimenting, learning, and trying it out, because they see the value proposition,” Kimbrough said.

Are you ready to study all things AI? Here’s how to learn, implement, and take action:

  1. Develop your AI abilities through practice as you apply for positions

  2. Showcase AI skills on your resume so HR Managers can identify them

  3. Highlight your AI credentials in interviews with potential employers by discussing examples of how the tech makes you better, faster, & more efficient

Gen Z Worried about Lazy Stereotypes

The disconnect between Gen Z and hiring managers has never been more clear.

A recent iHire survey asked the workplace habits of nearly 1,000 Gen Z employees along with the perspective of 200 mostly Gen X employers.

Nearly three-quarters of Gen Zers surveyed said their office etiquette skills were “excellent” or “good”, yet over half of the employers surveyed said the generation “needs to improve.”

Additionally, half of employers said the group was severely lacking in the resume department, despite nearly 70% of Gen Zers thinking their resume helped them land a job.

Steve Flook, iHire's President and CEO said, "Gen Z candidates must understand employers' expectations and how to best market themselves to find jobs."

Here’s how to combat the lazy and disconnected stereotype:

  1. Understand job requirements

  2. Learn how to best market yourself and your skills for positions

  3. Show you are ready to work, want to learn, and are motivated & loyal through consistent actions
