Let’s go!
Making first impressions count
Cheers to your first job!
Just like at a cocktail party, where first impressions are made in moments, hiring managers quickly judge your resume.
In an instant, they decide whether to continue the conversation or find an exit strategy, much like saying, "I need to go to the bathroom" at a social event. The same scrutiny applies to your resume. Recruiters and hiring managers typically spend just 7.4 seconds skimming a job application.
Here’s how to make the most of that time:
Keep it simple: Use basic formats & avoid fancy fonts.📚
Use keywords: Include job description terms.📝
Show certifications: List relevant qualifications. 🎓
Highlight talents: Emphasize hard and soft skills. 💼
Most of all, make every word work for you!
Crafting a company target list
Bullseye!
Creating an effective target company list starts with some self-reflection.
Understanding your own values, abilities, and professional interests is key to finding a company where you can thrive. Begin by answering these questions in a Google Doc or on a piece of paper:
Where will my resume shine?🚀 In which industries will I excel?
What do I bring to the table?💼 What specific skills do I offer?
Do our values match?💡 Are the company's beliefs similar to mine?
What are my requirements?🌱 What work style do I prioritize?
Once you've identified your passions, strengths, and ideals, begin your search.
Explore leading companies in your field and compile a comprehensive list. Be thorough — for instance, if you're interested in "marketing" or "sustainable energy," list over 50 startups or established companies in those industries. Focus on recent developments and job opportunities.
Take action and pursue your dream career with confidence!
Gen Z spending soars
By 2030, Gen Z's spending power is expected to hit $12 trillion globally, according to NielsenIQ and World Data Lab's "Spend Z" report. Born between 1997 and 2015, Gen Z makes up about 25% of the world's current population.
Marta Cyhan-Bowles from NielsenIQ shared insights with Yahoo’s Brad Smith, highlighting how Gen Z is outspending previous generations at the same age.
Gen Z is driving trends in health and beauty, especially on platforms like TikTok, where 81% of sales are in these categories. Probiotics and gut health products are also huge among the digitally native generation.
Gen Z is not just spending more, but also feeling more confident about achieving their financial goals than previous generations, according to a recent Charles Schwab's survey.
Maybe it’s not all bad news…
